Major medical technology conference in Limerick

The Irish Medical Devices Association are encouraging engineers to up-skill and work in the Med-tech sector.

The industry currently employs 25,000 people, across 300 companies here.

A conference on medical technology is taking place in Limerick this afternoon.

Sinead Keogh, Director of the Irish Medical Devices Association, says tickets for today's event are sold out, but people can get more information about the sector, on their website, IMDA.ie.

"The conference will provide an opportunity for the med-tech sector in Ireland to understand what's happening in the global med-tech business environment," she said.

"We in Ireland are in a strong position to continue to adapt, compete, and win on a global scale."

She highlighted the Springboard courses run by the Association, which allow engineers form other fields - such as civil engineering - to re-skill rapidly for the med-tech sector.
