Young man arrested after armed stand-off in Cork

An 18-year-old man has been arrested following an armed siege at a house in Co Cork.

Gardaí were alerted at 10.30pm last night about an incident at a house in Minane Bridge near Kinsale.

The area was sealed off and the Garda Regional Support unit was called to the scene after it emerged a man inside the house was armed with a shotgun.

Garda negotiators made contact with the 18 year old, who then gave himself up in the early hours of this morning.

He is now being detained at Bandon garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
