Murphy on Dublin water protest: I have nothing to apologise for

The Anti Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy says he will not be apologising to Tánaiste Joan Burton over last Saturday's protest in Dublin.

Yesterday, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny again called on him to apologise to Ms Burton after she was held in her car for more than two hours by protestors opposing water charges.

Deputy Murphy has today launched a 'We Won't Pay' campaign and is predicting that more than half of households will not pay even the lower level of charges to be announced by the Government later.

He was also non-repentant for the treatment of the Tánaiste in the protest, saying: "Am I going to give an a pology to the Tánaiste? I'm not.

"I have nothing to apologise for. I participated in a protest alongside my constituents about water charges. It was an angry protest, people have the absolute right to be angry, considering what Joan Burton and the Government have done to working class communities.

"The apology here should be coming from Joan Burton to the people who voted for the Labour Party."
