Crunch talks between farmers and factories have broken down tonight.

It is believed the discussions aimed at negotiating better beef prices for Irish farmers made some progress but not enough to avert protest action this weekend.

The IFA says farmers will stage demonstrations at meat plants across the country from 3pm on Sunday afternoon for 48 hours.
