€24m paid out for workplace accidents

The Injuries Board has said today - Thursday - is the most likely day of the week for workplace accidents which result in employer liability awards.

Compensation of €24m was paid out in respect of 826 claims for workplace accidents last year, up by €2m on 2012.

Slip, trips and falls were the most common accident type (30.8%) while 80% of awards were under €38,000.

The highest payment for last year was €432,000, up around €100,000 on 2012. It was related to a fatal workplace accident.
