Gardaí have held a heavy presence at Sligo Regional hospital overnight, after a man was stabbed in the town yesterday.

Gardaí have held a heavy presence at Sligo Regional hospital overnight, after a man was stabbed in the town yesterday.

A brawl broke out on O'Connell Street involving up to five people shortly after 2pm, which resulted in a male teenager having his finger severed and a man aged 45 being stabbed in the torso.

The teenager was brought to University College Hospital, Galway, following the incident which happened outside the Johnston's Court Arcade in full view of passers-by.

The injured man meanwhile was brought to Sligo Regional Hospital, where Gardaí have maintained a presence since.

No arrests have yet been made and none of the injuries are said to be life threatening.
