Dublin Zoo to donate €5,000 after tapir attack on toddler and mum

Dublin Zoo has agreed to donate €5,000 to charity in lieu of a conviction over a tapir attack on a toddler and her mother.

The two-year-old girl required surgery after being mauled by a Brazilian Tapir in the zoo last year.

Representatives from Dublin Zoo appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon and pleaded guilty to failing to implement a risk assessment, which recommended that visitors should not have access to the Tapir enclosure.

Dublin Zoo is to give €2,500 each to Laura Lynn and the Jack and Jill Foundation by December.

It also added changes have been implemented regarding the Tapir enclosure since the incident.
