HSE investigates infant's death after birth in Mullingar

The Health Service Executive has confirmed that an investigation is underway following the death of a baby.

The baby was born on August 16 at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar and subsequently died at the National Maternity Hospital Neo Natal Unit on August 22.

In a statement, the HSE said: "An incident management policy is being followed and a full and thorough investigation has commenced."

The executive has confirmed the family is involved in the process.

The hospital has extended its sympathies to the family.
