Role of social networking in grief examined at national conference

Social networking and the role it can play in young people’s grief is at the centre of discussions this morning as a national conference on childhood bereavement gets underway.

The event is being held at Dublin Castle, where the Minister for Children James Reilly has delivered an opening address.

The Irish Hospice Foundation aims to highlight the supports bereaved children need most.

Head of education, research and bereavement Orla Keegan said: "Our main message to the Minister is in the shape of the model we've prepared which talks about supporting nationally the best response for bereaved children.

"It's got messages about educating parents, families and teachers as well as resourcing the voluntary sector to provide the extra care."
