FG admits it has not posted a number of Seanad ballot papers

Fine Gael has admitted that it has not posted some of the Seanad ballot papers filled out by its members earlier this week.

Some TDs and Senators filled out their ballots for the by-election on Tuesday before John McNulty pulled out of the race.

Fine Gael has said it retained the ballot papers while it investigated whether it was possible for members to cast replacement votes in favour of a rival candidate.

A spokesman said the ballots would be posted later today, a week ahead of the deadline for receiving completed votes.

It is understood John McNulty may accept his Seanad seat if he wins the by election next week.

By the time he pulled out of the race on Tuesday, it was too late to remove Mr McNulty from the ballot paper.
