Ploughing Championships end with new record attendance

The National Ploughing Championships have come to an end - after smashing its previous record for attendance.

73,000 people attended the final day of the event in Co Laois, bringing the overall total to just under 280,000.

Event organiser Anna May McHugh said the venue for next year's championships hasn't been confirmed.

But she is delighted with the turnout - which beat last year's record by 55,000.

"I'm delighted for everybody that came to support it … the standard of the stands and their presentation is absolutely wonderful," she said.
