Data Protection contacts Irish Water over PPS use
The Data Protection Commissioner has contacted Irish Water to raise concerns about its use of personal data.
The office of the commissioner said it is happy that Irish Water will only use information like PPS numbers for the purpose intended.
The utility company said it only needs the data to make sure that it gives customers the credits they are entitled to.
But the data watchdog said it has been in contact with Irish Water, telling them to be more specific in telling people why their data might be transferred to a third party.
