Figures released by The Standards in Public Office Commission show that no candidates breached the spending limit of €230,000 in the recent European Elections campaign.

In Dublin, Labour's Emer Costello – who failed to win a seat – spent the most on her campaign, coming in at a cost of just over €202,000.

Fianna Fáil's Pat the Cope Gallagher, who lost his seat in the European parliament, spent the most in the Midlands North West constituency at over €161,000.

The highest expenditure in Ireland South was by Fine Gael's Deirdre Clune, who won a seat in Europe.

The lowest spend by a successful candidate was by Independent MEP Luke Ming Flanagan - whose campaign cost just over €38,000.
