Minister to increase funding for parent training scheme

Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan will today announce an additional €40,000 in funding for an anti-bullying training scheme for parents.

More than 3,200 parents nationwide benefited from attending the programme last year.

The Anti-Bullying Parent Training Programme is being run jointly by the National Parents Council both Primary and Post Primary.

Its aim is to support the implementation of the Action Plan on Bullying, which provides training and resources for parents and boards of management.

Last year's funding of €60,000 supported the delivery of 105 anti-bullying parent training sessions, to more than 3,200 parents nationwide.

Parents who attended the sessions say they felt it had given them more confidence in supporting their child with a bullying issue - and in engaging with their school if a bullying incident arose.

Today’s announcement by Education Minister Jan O' Sullivan will bring the total 2014 allocation for the programme to more than €100,000.
