Defence Forces confirm Irish troops safe from current rocket fire

The Defence Forces has said reported rocket fire in the Golan Heights is not taking place in the area where Irish troops are based.

Various rebel groups have been engaged in intense fighting with the Syrian military in and near the Golan Heights region.

There are currently 130 Irish personnel deployed there, as part of the 44th Infantry Division.

The UN is monitoring the situation on an on-going basis.
