VIDEO: Streets of Cork come to life with early-morning rave

Almost 100 people attended an alcohol-free early-morning rave and live music concert on the streets of Cork this morning.

Fuelled by nothing more than freshly-squeezed orange juice and cups of strong coffee, bleary-eyed revellers shook off their early-morning blues to dance their socks off and start their day in style on Prince’s Street from 6.30am.

Inspired by the Morning Gloryville immersive morning dance experience which took place in Dublin last month, the first Good Morning Cork initiative was organised by Prince’s Street-based businessman, Jack Crotty of The Rocket Man.

He expanded the concept to include live music. There were yoga classes on the street too, while beauty therapists and hair-stylists offered eyebrow waxing and hair-styling.

Up to 100 people attended the event over two hours, with students, office workers and young parents and children attending.

DJ Stevie G started spinning the decks from 6.30am.

“I’d normally be heading home from a gig at this hour, but it was great to be part of it,” he said.

West Cork-based funk, soul outfit, The Saxy Lady Boys took over and kept the vibe going until 8.30am.

Bewildered office workers who stumbled upon the event said it was a great use of the street, and brought great life to the city at a normally quiet hour.

Mr Crotty said he hopes to stage more similar events in the future.
