Beef products had only beef, but 'lamb' kebabs showed other meats in FSAI tests

A study of 52 beef products tested by the Food Safety Authority has found no traces of horsemeat.

The tests on burgers, ready meals and pasta dishes were part of an ongoing EU programme on food fraud.

The FSAI says the test results demonstrate compliance by the industry, following last year's horsemeat controversy.

However a separate study by the Food Safety Authority on lamb dishes in takeaways found other meats in seven of the 20 foods sampled.

Most of the so-called "lamb" kebabs contained little or no lamb, but chicken and beef instead.

The FSAI said that while it was not a safety issue, it raised concerns about misleading consumers.
