McGuinness calls for calm ahead of marching season

The North's Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness is calling for peace as marching season gets underway.

Tensions are high after the Parades' Commission banned the Orange Order from marching in the Ardoyne area on July 12.

Five consecutive nights of violence and rioting occurred on the streets of Belfast last year following the controversial loyalist parade.

Speaking in Dublin this afternoon, Martin McGuinness appealed for calm.

"This is a time for people to be calm, for cool heads," he said.

He also pointed to "very severe difficulties within the political process which emanates from the unionism and loyalism to accept and respect the determination of a lawfully constituted body, the Parades Commission".
