No plans to challenge Martin's FF leadership 'at the moment'

Fianna Fáil's John McGuinness says a leadership heave against party leader Micheál Martin is not on the agenda "at the moment".

Deputy McGuinness, who heads the Dáil's Public Accounts Committee, has made no secret of his own leadership ambitions in the past.

He says Fianna Fáil is now a "small party" and a meeting will be held to discuss the outcome of the elections and the way forward.

John McGuinness says he is not currently planning a heave against Deputy Martin, but said that the party needs to consider its future.

"There's no challenge there at the moment," he said.

"These are discussions that we're having after the election, and there's no point in talking about any of that now because it's not on the agenda, and I think that when we have these discussions they could be very fruitful and we could come out of it with a different direction, a different imperative and so on, and I think we'll wait for that day."
