Eamon Gilmore to step down as Labour leader

Eamon Gilmore has announced his intention to step down as leader of the Labour Party this afternoon. His resignation will take effect as soon as a successor is chosen.

The Tánaiste made the announcement at a press conference at 4pm, following a poor result in both the local and European elections this weekend.
