Voter turnout for the local and European elections is being described as "brisk".

Turnout in some parts of Cork is in the mid to late twenties this evening.

Some polling stations in Galway have seen 20% of voters already cast their ballot, while Offaly, Westmeath and Laois are all reporting turnout in the twenties.

It is up to 36% in Tipperary while Kildare is at 20%.

Polling stations will remain open until 10pm.

Counting of the votes in the local and by-elections will begin tomorrow morning while counting in the European Elections will get underway on Sunday morning.
