Some 270 new jobs have been announced for Limericas part of an €80m investment by Ethicon Biosurgery Ireland.

Some 270 new jobs have been announced for Limericas part of an €80m investment by Ethicon Biosurgery Ireland.

Ethicon, part of Johnson & Johnson, is a worldwide leader in providing medical patches that help stem blood flow from patients.

The company is to establish a manufacturing facility at the National Technology Park in Plassey.

The new Limerick facility will manufacture EVARREST™ Sealant Matrix, a novel product that rapidly and reliably aids in stopping bleeding during surgery.

Recruitment is underway and the positions will be filled over the next five years.

An additional 150 construction jobs will be created during the construction phase of the project.

The Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton and the Finance Minister Michael Noonan are on hand for the announcement in Limerick this afternoon.

Limerick City and County Council manager Conn Murray said: "The €80m expansion of Ethicon today is a major vote of confidence in Limerick which is fast becoming home to a hub of the leading players in the life sciences and medical devices sectors.

"I welcome the fact that some of the most advanced surgical care in the world, enhancing patients lives across the globe will now be made in Limerick by Limerick people."
