Gardaí in Cork have appealed for assistance following an armed raid on a second-hand store over the weekend in which were staff were threatened at gunpoint.

Gardaí in Cork have appealed for assistance following an armed raid on a second-hand store over the weekend in which were staff were threatened at gunpoint.

A lone raider, armed with a sawn-off shotgun, burst into the Cash Converters shop on MacCurtain Street as staff were about to close for the day at around 5.50pm on Friday evening.

A male member of staff was threatened before handing over some jewellery.

Gardaí describe the raider as being between 5ft 8 in and 5 ft 10 inches tall, of medium build with a Cork accent.

It is believed he may have had an accomplice waiting in a getaway car.

Detectives have begun checking CCTV footage in the hope of identifying the man.
