Garda whistleblower's wife delighted by ministers' support

The wife of Garda whistleblower John Wilson says he is "delighted" with the support of a number of Cabinet ministers.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar and Social Protection Minister Joan Burton have called for the Garda Commissioner to withdraw his comments describing the whistleblowers' actions as "disgusting".

Martin Callinan says his comments were not referring to their conduct, but rather to the way sensitive information ended up in the public arena.

Ann Wilson says she believes the Commissioner's claims are an "excuse" and "contradict" his evidence to the Public Accounts Committee.

John Wilson is currently recovering in hospital after surgery for bowel cancer and his wife Ann says news of the Ministers' support is huge boost.
