Bruton breaks government Seachtain na Gaeilge promise

Cabinet minister Richard Bruton has admitted he would not be comfortable trying to conduct his Dáil business through Irish.

Leaders' Questions in the Dáil today were supposed to be conducted entirely 'as Gaeilge' to mark Seachtain na Gaeilge.

However, with most of the cabinet out of the country for St Patrick's Day the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, who doesn't speak Irish, was left to fill in.

He stated that he not ‘competent’ enough with his Irish to try and do Dáil business through the national language.
