Progress made in new Michaela probe

John McAreavey has said there has been some progress in the new investigation into the murder of his wife Michaela.

She was found dead in her hotel room while the couple were honeymooning in Mauritius in January 2011.

Two men were acquitted of the killing the following year and a new police investigation was opened after the trial.

John said some information has been presented to the DPP in Mauritius and the investigating team is also waiting on some DNA evidence.

McAreavey added just because the case is out of the spotlight, it does not mean the effort to find whoever killed his wife has come to an end.

“Ever since the acquittal myself and my sister have worked tirelessly to try and reinvigorate it (the investigation).

“I have been working closely with the Mauritian authorises to keep the pressure on them. It’s a long and slow process, you really do require a lot of patience because you could get frustrated very easily,” said John.
