Govt publishes guidelines on Garda whistleblower scandal probe

The terms of reference for an investigation into the Garda whistleblower controversy have been published by Government.

Under the guidelines Senior counsel Sean Guerin has until Easter to recommend if a full commission of inquiry should be ordered.

Mr Guerin has been asked to interview whistleblower Sergeant Maurice McCabe, as well as anyone else who might be relevant in his allegations.

However, he has not been given the remit to investigate the controversy about whether Sergeant McCabe co-operated with the penalty points investigation or not.
