Graffiti crackdown proposed by Dublin City Council

There could be a crackdown on buying spray paint in a bid to tackle graffiti in Dublin.

Some councillors want the sale of aerosols restricted to those over 16.

The proposal has been sent to the Department of the Environment for consideration. It costs the four local authorities in Dublin around €600,000 a year to clear all graffiti.

"Anything that would help us … would be something that's welcome," said Richard Guiney of the Dublin City Business Improvement District.

"The artistic quality of what's put up on the walls wouldn't be huge … actually it's just vandalism."
