Workers' strike 'could close Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports'

Industrial action by SIPTU-represented workers at Aer Lingus and the DAA over a pensions dispute may result in closures at the country's three main airports.

SIPTU has said the companies are refusing to engage in meaningful talks about a deficit in the pension scheme.

It says after three years of an industrial relations process, the pensions crisis has worsened even though market conditions are improving.

SIPTU Organiser Dermot O'Loughlin said: "Unfortunately it will entail very significant disruption (at) Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports," he said.

"Because of the seriousness now attached to (this issue), it is very probable that there will be closures to the airports."
