We can't just forget about the North's past Troubles - McHugh

The Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement has re-iterated the importance of dealing with the North's legacy issues.

Justice for the Forgotten, a group representing victims of the Troubles, will attend a meeting of the committee today to give their perspective on the manner in which victims of the Troubles are being treated.

The aim of the meeting, which comes just weeks after the failure of the Haass talks, is to continue a process of seeking answers for families who lost loved ones during the Troubles.

"We can't ignore the atrocities, and while the new generation is coming along and will be immune to many of the activities that happened over the last 30 years, we have to learn," said Fine Gael TD for Donegal Northeast, Joe McHugh.

"While we won't get answers for everybody, there are still many families grieving… living the nightmare of the past."
