Opposition to respond to Taoiseach's promise of 'prosperous future' for Ireland

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is promising a "secure and prosperous future" for Irish people, but says it won't happen overnight.

In an address to the nation last night, Mr Kenny also promised to create enough jobs to bring emigrants home.

The Taoiseach's message last night as we exited the Troika bailout was that we are "90% through" the tax hikes and spending cuts.

He thanked the Irish people for the work they have put into the recovery, and said the focus now has to be on job creation:

The Taoiseach says a new economic plan to be published this week will be the driving force of those jobs, and will ensure no return to boom and bust.

The Opposition will respond to Mr Kenny's address on TV tonight.

The Cabinet is expected to sign off on a post-Troika economic plan tomorrow.

Chief Economist with the Institute of International and European Affairs, Dan O'Brien, says the plan is aimed at three audiences - voters, the Troika and the international markets.
