A 42-year-old man is being questioned over the alleged possession of a firearm.

A 42-year-old man has been charged over the alleged possession of a firearm.

Detectives from CID in Newtownabbey arrested the man following a report of an altercation between a number of people in the Rashee Park area of Ballyclare, Co Antrim, on Saturday night.

The PSNI spokesman said when police attended the scene there was no fight ongoing but a man was sighted in possession of a suspected firearm.

A suspect had been charged with with four firearm offences, including possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later this month.

Elsewhere, a 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possessing a gun in Foyle in the early hours of Saturday morning has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
