TDs to hear of detrimental effects of increase of stamp duty on health insurance

TD's will today be told that plans to increase stamp duty on health insurance could kill the industry altogether.

Representatives from the four health insurance companies have been asked to give evidence at the Oireachtas health committee.

The committee is considering legislation which would charge insurers an extra €49 for most adult health insurance policies - a charge which most will pass on to customers.

Figures from VHI, Aviva, Laya and GloHealth will appear at the Health committee to offer feedback on the plans.
