Former Anglo treasury boss to stand trial

The former head of Anglo Irish Bank’s treasury division is to stand trial on revenue offences.

Tiernan O’Mahony of Glenpines, Old Long Hill Rod, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow appeared at Dublin District Court this afternoon.

Tiernan O’Mahony was head of Anglo Irish Bank’s treasury division until 2005.

The charges allege that in 2003, while an officer of the bank, he wilfully concealed a bank account, produced an incorrect document and obstructed the Revenue Commissioners in the course of their duties.

The four charges are to be tried on indictment under the Taxes Consolidation Act.

The 54-year-old appeared at Dublin District Court this afternoon wearing a dark suit, a red tie and a black overcoat.

Detective Sergeant Gerard Doyle gave evidence Mr O’Mahony was arrested at 1.20pm and made no reply when charged after caution.

Judge Patricia McNamara granted bail and put the case back until February for service of the book of evidence.
