Westmeath crash puts man into hospital

A man is in a critical condition in hospital following a single-car crash in Co Westmeath overnight.

The man who is aged in his 20s was seriously injured when his car hit a ditch on the R195 near Castlepollard shortly after 3am this morning.

He was taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital for treatment.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and the road has been closed for a technical examination.
