Publicans in Dublin have said the outlook is improving after five tough years in the economy.

However, the situation remains dire for many rural pubs.

The Licensed Vintners Association pointed to the fact that ten years ago - three quarters of alcohol was sold in bars, with off-licenses accounting for one quarter.

Now, off-trade sales account for over half of alcohol sales.
