Gardaí contacted over Healy-Rae's 'write-and-drive'
The Road Safety Authority has contacted gardaí over a recent programme involving Kerry TD Michael Healy Ray.
The Irish Times reports the documentary showed Deputy Healy Ray taking notes and talking on a hands-free while driving.
The Kerry TD claims he "made a mistake".
"The person who never made a mistake never made anything," he said today. "I certainly never set out to purposely do anything wrong, or anything that wouldn't be proper or right."
"The same as everyone else, I make mistakes every day of the week – I'll probably make mistakes today, and tomorrow, and every other day."
In the original interview clip, Healy-Rae is heard saying "Oh God, you're not supposed to write and drive, there's some law about that."
Officials from the RSA have also asked RTE to be mindful of road safety, and not to interview people while they're driving.
