Garda Ombudsman to probe complaints against gardaí in Mayo

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating complaints that a contractor on the Shell gas pipeline delivered thousands of euro worth of alcohol to gardaí in Mayo.

A garda investigation is already underway into the allegations that OSSL ordered drink to be sent to gardaí in Belmullet for Christmas 2007.

A number of complaints made to gardaí about the matter have now been forwarded to the Garda Ombudsman.

Shell Ireland said it will co-operate fully with Ombudsman's investigation.

It said the allegations have dragged on and that Shell trusts the Ombudsman's involvement will bring the matter to an end.
