Senior citizens to protest Budget cuts today
Senior citizens are to protest outside the Dáil today against cuts in the Budget.
The Irish Senior Citizens Parliament said that older people are concerned about the reduction in the over-70s medical card limit and the ending of the bereavement grant.
The group said that its actively campaigning to seek Government to reverse the austerity decisions made in last week's Budget.
"People want to actually show their displeasure," said organiser Mairead Hayes.
"We have been inundated with calls, people telling us their story, people emailing us.
"it's not really taking to the streets to the extent that … it is in fact a protest, but it will be peaceful and dignified, to show their displeasure about what they see as measures that are aimed at older and young people and sick people."
