Man held after teen shot in Belfast

Detectives have arrested a man over the shooting of a teenager in the North.

The 40-year-old man was detained in west Belfast in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent.

He is being quizzed about a gun attack in the New Barnsley Gardens area of the city at around 2:30pm yesterday afternoon.

The 19-year-old victim was shot in the buttock and taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

It is believed two masked men – who were wearing dark clothing at the time - made off in the direction of Vere Foster Walk after the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Little has appealed for help from the public.
