High Court to hear challenge to Government promissory notes

Three High Court judges will today begin hearing a challenge to the Government's issuing of promissory notes.

The case is being brought by Dublin South Central TD Joan Collins.

The People Before Profit TD claims promissory note payments are unlawful and unconstitutional because public monies were appropriated without the matter being put to a Dail vote.

She also claims that Section 17 of the IBRC Act 2013 which allows for the immediate liquidation of Anglo Irish Bank is unconstitutional.

The case is to be heard over the next 4 days.
