The Finance Minister Michael Noonan is said to be considering a cut in VAT for construction workers to kick-start the industry.

The Irish Independent reports that Mr Noonan is planning to triple the number of houses built each year by introducing the measure whilst also reducing the 80% land re-zoning tax.

It is understood the homes will cater for shortages in city areas around the country.
