Burton: Gilmore has my full confidence
Deputy Labour leader Joan Burton has said that Eamon Gilmore has her full confidence and support , and that she expects him to lead the party into the next general election.
Minister Burton was speaking after the latest opinion poll showed support for Labour has fallen to its lowest level in over 25 years.
Support for the Tanaiste also fell by three points to just 6%.
The Minister for Social Protection said Labour has a lot of issues to address, but she refused to be drawn on any leadership ambitions of her own:
"He (Gilmore) has my full support and I want to reiterate that," she said.
"I have a friendly, professional business relationship with Eamon Gilmore and I just want to reiterate (that) we actually privately, personally get on extremely well.
"I expect him to be leading the Labour Party into the next general election and for as long as he wishes to remain."
