Gardaí in Waterford have been called to a dispute between the ferry operator and the Waterford Castle Hotel.

The dispute has left people stranded on an island in Waterford City.

It is understood that the operator of the ferry decided to stop his service at around 8pm tonight.

Gardaí say they believe he is in dispute with the owners of the Waterford Castle resort.

The ferry is currently in the middle of the river and is not breaking any maritime law.

Waterford gardaí have been called but the Garda Press Office says the matter is a civil dispute.

UPDATE: The dispute has now been resolved, according to local radio station WLR.
