Man found stabbed to death in Dublin apartment

A 51-year-old man has been found stabbed to death in a Dublin apartment this afternoon.

A friend of the victim made the grim discovery in a flat on Ormond Square, Smithfield this afternoon.

Gardaí said the man appeared to have suffered several stab wounds in the neck and body.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the attack or anyone with information to come forward and contact the Bridewell Garda station on 01-666 7700.

It comes just a day after a 32-year-old father of one was stabbed to death at a house in Kiltalown Way in Tallaght.

He was attacked after a fight broke out between a group of men who had been drinking heavily all day yesterday.

James Humphries, 32, died when he was stabbed several times in the stomach during a row at a house in Tallaght, south Dublin, last night.

His heartbroken aunt Teresa Knowles fought back tears as she paid tribute to her nephew as family members left flowers at the scene of the knife attack on Kiltalown Way.

“He was brilliant, he wouldn’t harm anybody,” she said.

A Garda source said the victim had been watching the All-Ireland football final between Dublin and Mayo in the property with others before a drunk-fuelled row broke out.

He stumbled out of the house in to the garden where paramedics had fought to save his life.

He was pronounced dead in Tallaght Hospital at about 7pm.

A suspect arrested by murder detectives remains in custody while gardaí interview three others in the property at the time.

Ms Knowles said relations have no idea what happened to the single man, who had a 12-year-old child.

“We’re just listening to the stuff going on in the news saying that it was over a row, but nobody knows,” she told RTÉ radio. “He wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“He had a 12-year-old but he was single, he wasn’t with the girlfriend.”

Mr Humphries lived with his aunt Ann Hawkswood in the Glenshane area of Tallaght. It is understood his mother and three brothers are travelling home from Birmingham.

The murder suspect, who was also aged in his 30s, was taken to Tallaght Garda Station where he can be questioned for 24 hours.
