Man charged over Laois firearms and drug seizure

A man arrested in Portarlington on Friday has been charged in connection with the seizure of weapons, ammunition and cannabis.

The man, in his late 20s, will appear before a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court on Sunday morning.

Gardaí searched an apartment at the Oaks, Killnacourt, Portarlington, earlier today, where two sawn-off shotguns, a pistol and a quantity of ammunition were recovered.

Gardaí also seized cannabis herb with an estimated street value of up to €10,000.

The seizure was part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and supply of drugs in the Laois region.
