The Daily Mail newspaper has settled a defamation action taken by Ryanair.

The airline was suing the newspaper over reports on its fuel policy.

The terms of the settlement, which was confirmed in Belfast this morning, have not been disclosed.

Ryanair Chief Executive has said the settlement vindicates his airline's track record.

"I think we are very pleased we this morning's settlement with the mail, we acknowledge the fact that the Mail has acted promptly in reaching this settlement which we welcome and which vindicates Ryanair's outstanding 29 year safety record."
