An Irish man has died in hospital in Melbourne, Australia, this morning after sustaining head injuries last weekend.

An Irish man has died in hospital in Melbourne, Australia, this morning after sustaining head injuries last weekend.

30-year-old Eoin Murray, from Leixlip in Co Kildare, was found injured on the street in the suburb of Fitzroy at around 6am last Saturday and taken to hospital.

He had been in a critical condition since then.

Its not clear how Mr Murray received his injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses, but said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Update at 12.30pm

It has emerged that the Mr Murray had recently been granted citizenship in Australia.
