Bank apologises to widow of Priory Hall resident who took his own life

The bank which sent a letter to the widow of a Priory Hall resident who took his own life has apologised for telling her she still owed €17,000.

KBC Bank has said it "deeply regrets" any upset its letter may have caused Stephanie Meehan - which the mother-of-two described at the time as a "kick in the stomach".

The bank had told her that interest on the mortgage would continue to accrue until it had been redeemed in full.

However, in a statement last night, KBC said it would stop pursuing Ms Meehan for the outstanding balance because of the circumstances of her "tragic case".
