IMO: Strike action by junior doctors 'inevitable'

The Irish Medical Organisation is warning that industrial action by junior doctors is now inevitable after meetings with the HSE on working hours failed to reach agreement.

A ballot of more than 2,000 junior doctors will conclude on Monday, and it is expected they will vote in favour of industrial action.

They are protesting against the excessive hours which junior doctors are forced to work, with many working up to 100 hours per week.

A European Directive states they should work no more than 48 hours per week.
